Bland diet for use with elementary and high school students recovering from a bad GI virus. Suggestions besides the CBRAT type format. I work as a school nurse and find that parents often have no clue as to what to feed them when they are recovering. We have had a particularly bad version that has lasted up to 4 days in some children. They have had prolonged stomach cramping post virus and don't tolorate much of anything for a couple of days afterward. I also became victum. Any information that you can offer would be great. Have passed this web site on to the other health nurses. Great site.

Upon returning from a trip to Mexico, my 6 yr. old has been vomiting and has diarrhea. He is sleeping and does not have a temperature. Does this sound like it could be related to ingesting a small amount of water when brushing his teeth or just a normal flu-like virus? Thank you
Question Category : Diarrhea
My 5 year old has had greenish stools for the last few years ( yes, years ). Our pediatrician thought it was due to flouride in our water or vitamins. We just found out that we do NOT have flouridated water. We stopped his vitamins several months ago yet his stools remain green in color. I would appreciate your comments.

To Whom It may Concern My 4 month old son has had an amoebic infection resulting in blood in his stool and a diarrhoea. The diarrhoea recently returned along with severe vomitting and we ended up in hospital. I am now concerned about keeping him sufficiently hydrated. Can you tell me how I tell if he is hydrated? One midwife that I saw recently mentioned elasticity in the skin but I am not sure how to check this. Thanks

We are taking care of our 14 month old grandson this weekend and we note that all of his bowel movements have been soft, but yellow. This is not related to the food he is eating because he is eating normally. He seems a little quiter than usual, but definitely not unhappy or fussy. Is this normal, or should we be concerned?

Question Category : Diarrhea
My two year old daughter had a bout of diahrrea last night that was incredibly foul smelling. It smelled like an old outhouse, forlack of a better description. She had some vomiting, but it seems to be secondary to the diahrrea as it was pretty solid vomiting, not the fluidly vomit ususally associated with the flu. What could be the cause of this incredibly bad smelling, watery, tan-colored diahrrea?
Question Category : Diarrhea
Our 16 month old daughter experienced a long bout (3-4 months) of diarrhea earlier this year. It resolved itself while it was being investigated by a variety of experts, as did the rectal prolapse that went along with it. After about a week of normal stools, she has developed very pale (tan-coloured) stools that seem to have sand in them. (We know it's not sand, but that gives you an idea of the texture.) Otherwise, they are of normal texture, and although they're odd-smelling, they're not nearly as as foul as the diarrhea. Are pale, sandy stools normal? She eats very well and drinks about 2 cups of water daily in addition to older babies' formula.
